SeniorGamesNursing home residents brought home a treasure trove of medals for their efforts at the inaugural Alabama Nursing Home Association Senior State Games.

Several gold, silver and bronze medals were given to the winners in bocce ball, checkers and dominos.

The winners are:

Hanceville Nursing & Rehab Center

Bocce Ball

  • Paula Mitchell – gold in 55-59 age category
  • Delene Lankford – gold for overall winner, gold in 70-74 age category
  • Edna Kilgo – silver in 70-74 age category
  • Dorothy Bergner – gold in 80-84 age category
  • Robert Wilbanks – gold in 85-89 age category
  • Mary Robertson – silver in 85-89 age category

Dominos

  • Thomas McDanal – silver for second place overall, gold in 75-79 age category

Checkers

  • Gerald Hodges – gold in 75-79 age category

Jacksonville Health & Rehab

Dominos

  • Francine Ginn – gold for overall winner, gold in women’s 55-59 age category
  • Donald Bush – gold in men’s 55-59 age category
  • Leslie Oden – gold in men’s 50-54 age category

Caregivers of Pleasant Grove

Dominos

  • Connie Pope – gold in 85-89 age category

Bill Nichols State Veterans Home

Dominos

  • Calvin Hall – silver in 55-59 age category

Checkers

  • Charlie Boswell – gold for overall winner
  • Roger Thornton – silver for second place overall

After competition, nursing home residents joined other senior citizens competitor to march in the parade of athletes during the opening ceremony at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex Arena.

The Alabama Nursing Home Association Senior State Games is a partnership of the Alabama Department of Senior Services and the ASF Foundation.
