About a year ago, Haleyville Health & Rehab Center celebrated a high quality health care achievement amid the sorrow of losing its long-time leader.
The skilled nursing care center earned a “deficiency free” health survey shortly after its administrator, Curt Wasson, passed away. You can read more about that here.
Today, a new leader is on board and the team continues the commitment to quality health care.
“One of the things I’ve always tried to do is to get everyone to respect each other,” Administrator Tony Culberson said. “The housekeepers feel was important as the Director of Nursing. That way everyone feels important, and important people do important work.”
The “important” mindset keeps caregivers focused on the task at hand – resident care. That focus is paying off. Haleyville Health & Rehab Center was recently designated “deficiency free” for the second year in a row by the Alabama Department of Public Health.
“It makes us very proud that we can continue to provide the service we strive to do for the residents” Culberson added. “Resident care is your entire report card. We’re all involved in trying to make the resident’s life as good as possible.”
A skilled nursing care center is declared “deficiency free” when state government inspectors conduct an annual inspection and find that the center meets all of the criteria set forth by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The on-site inspections take several days to complete.
“They’re dedicated,” Culberson said while praising his staff. “When a call light comes on, they hurry to the room to make sure the residents have what they need.”
And this commitment to caring goes beyond the walls of the nursing center.
“We pride ourselves in returning a large portion of our residents back home and into the community. We work every day to get people to their highest level of ability and possibly transition home,” Culberson said.
