In the midst of trying times, nursing home employees put their best foot forward.

This was the case recently at a north Alabama nursing home.

Haleyville Health Care Center’s long-time administrator Curt Wasson passed away unexpectedly shortly after Christmas.

Within days of Curt’s passing, a nursing home inspection team from the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) arrived at Haleyville Health Care Center to conduct the annual health survey. After a thorough review, ADPH found the facility to be deficiency free.

“This deficiency free health survey is a testament to Curt’s leadership, and his devotion to the residents and employees of Haleyville Health Care Center,” Interim Administrator Mary Jo Letson said. “I appreciate the dedication our employees have shown during this difficult time. While Curt will be dearly missed, the team he assembled will continue to provide compassionate care to our residents.”

A note about health surveys:
Federal law requires the State of Alabama to perform annual inspections of each nursing home – called a health survey. Surveyors from the Alabama Department of Public Health’s Division of Health Care Facilities spend several days on-site reviewing all aspects of the nursing home’s operation. A deficiency free health survey indicates that the nursing home is in compliance with each of the over 140 areas inspected by state surveyors.
