Thirteen member skilled nursing centers of the Alabama Nursing Home Association are receiving national recognition for reaching quality goals set by the American Health Care Association (AHCA).
These centers meet or exceed three or more of the goals set forth by AHCA’s Quality Initiative.
Announced in February 2012, the AHCA Quality Initiative aims to further improve the lives of individuals receiving care in skilled nursing centers by setting measurable goals in four, key areas of quality of care:
- safely reduce hospital re-admissions within 30 days during a skilled nursing stay by 15 percent;
- increase staff stability by reducing nursing staff turnover by 15 percent;
- increase customer satisfaction by having 90 percent of residents and families willing to recommend their center to others; and
- safely reduce the off-label use of anti-psychotics by 15 percent.
The following centers are recognized for achieving all four quality goals:
- Citronelle Convalescent Center, Citronelle
- Highlands Health & Rehab, Scottsboro
The following centers are recognized for achieving three of the four goals:
- Bibb Medical Center Nursing Home, Centerville
- Birmingham Nursing & Rehab Center, Birmingham
- Capitol Hill Healthcare Center, Montgomery
- Cherry Hill Rehab & Healthcare Center, Birmingham
- Golden Living Center Foley, Foley
- Golden Living Center Meadowood, Bessemer
- Keller Landing, Tuscumbia
- NHC Healthcare Anniston, Anniston
- Sunset Manor, Guin
- Westside Terrace Health & Rehab First, Dothan
- Willow Trace Nursing Center, Butler
Nationally, only 151 centers achieved all four goals, and 809 centers achieved three of the four goals.
Organizations that met these goals were identified using data from outside sources on readmissions and antipsychotic use. National surveys were used to collect staff turnover and customer satisfaction data directly from members.
Alabama’s quality achievers, as well as achievers from across the country, will be honored at AHCA’s upcoming Quality Symposium in February 2015 in Austin, Texas.
