Eleven member facilities of the Alabama Nursing Home Association have been nationally recognized for reaching quality goals set by the American Health Care Association (AHCA). These nursing homes met or exceeded three or more of the goals set forth by AHCA’s Quality Initiative.

Announced in February 2012, the AHCA Quality Initiative aims to further improve the lives of individuals receiving care in skilled nursing centers by setting measurable goals in four, key areas of quality of care:

  • safely reduce hospital re-admissions within 30 days during a skilled nursing stay by 15 percent by March 2015;
  • increase staff stability by reducing nursing staff turnover by 15 percent by March 2015;
  • increase customer satisfaction by having 90 percent of residents and families willing to recommend their center to others by March 2015; and
  • safely reduce the off-label use of anti-psychotics by 15 percent by the end of 2013. For more information on how Alabama is safely reducing the off-label use of anti-psychotics, click here.

South Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center in Montgomery is recognized for achieving all four quality goals.

The following facilities are recognized for achieving three of the four goals:

  • Capitol Hill Healthcare Center, Montgomery
  • Cedar Crest, Montgomery
  • Fairfield Nursing & Rehab Center, Fairfield
  • Glenwood Healthcare, Florence
  • Golden LivingCenter Lanett, Lanett
  • Grand Bay Convalescent Home, Grand Bay
  • Jacksonville Health & Rehab, Jacksonville
  • South Haven Health & Rehab, Birmingham
  • West Gate Village, Brewton
  • Westside Terrace Health & Rehab Center, Dothan

As a voluntary program, participating facilities submit staff turnover data and customer satisfaction results to AHCA, while the national association analyzes the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Minimum Data Set statistics on hospital re-admissions and anti-psychotics.

Alabama’s achievers, as well as other achievers from across the country, will be honored at AHCA’s Quality Symposium in February 2014 in New Orleans, LA.
