A west Alabama nursing home with a long history of serving its community is being recognized for delivering high quality health care.
Sumter Health & Rehab, located in York, has been designated as “deficiency free” by the Alabama Department of Public Health. During a recent inspection, a team of state government employees found the skilled nursing care center met all of the over 140 health care criteria outlined by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
Being designated as “deficiency free” is a great way for Sumter Health & Rehab to mark its 50th year of service to residents of west central Alabama and east Mississippi. The facility was erected in 1964.
“This deficiency free survey shows how much our employees are committed to caring for each person that lives on our campus,” Sumter Health & Rehab Administrator Joe Dampeer said. “We’ve enjoyed 50 great years as a part of this community. With our team of health care professionals, we plan to provide high quality health services and a caring environment to everyone that walks through our doors for a long time to come.”
Federal law requires every nursing home to be inspected annually. In Alabama, the federal government contracts with the Alabama Department of Public Health to send an inspection team to each facility to conduct a multi-day review of every aspect of the nursing home’s operation.
