After a rigorous review, government inspectors declared that a Shelby County nursing home meets all state and federal regulations.

This is the third time the facility has received this designation in recent years.

That nursing home, Columbiana Health & Rehabilitation, earned what health care inspectors call a deficiency free health survey.

“Being deficiency free proves that our team members put the care and well being of our residents first,” Columbiana Health & Rehabilitation Administrator Shannon Bell said. “Many of our staff members have been with us since we opened, and most live nearby. This is more than a job to them because they are caring for their friends, relatives, even former school teachers and Sunday school teachers.”

Columbiana Health & Rehabilitation also earned deficiency free surveys in 2008 and 2011. The 2014 survey is the third deficiency free survey since the facility opened in 2004.

The health survey is an annual inspection of a nursing home by trained inspectors from the Alabama Department of Public Health’s Division of Health Care Facilities. A facility is declared deficiency free when it meets all of the 140 plus federal regulations.
