Farrell_Reception8State and local leaders honored Ms. Alabama Nursing Home 2014 Edna Farrell on Thursday, August 14.

Arbor Springs Health & Rehab Center in Opelika hosted the event to allow the community to formally congratulate Ms. Farrell on her accomplishment. Ms. Farrell is a resident of Arbor Springs.

State Senators Gerald Dial and Tom Whatley read a resolution from the Alabama Senate. The resolution stated that Ms. Farrell is “a source of inspiration to those who are fortunate to know her, and she is truly deserving of the significant honor bestowed upon her.” Ms. Farrell’s comments about the proclamation caused both senators to laugh out loud.

Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller presented her with a certificate from the City of Opelika. It said Ms. Farrell’s “positive attitude, quick wit and willingness to continue to help others is an outstanding example of how one can continue with a celebration of life at any age and in any setting.”

Auburn from Mayor Pro Tem Dick Phelan presented Ms. Farrell with a key to the City of Auburn and offered congratulations on behalf of Mayor Bill Ham, Jr. Ms. Farrell is a member of Trinity United Lutheran Church in Auburn.

Other community leaders, Arbor Springs staff members and Ms. Farrell’s family and friends attended the reception.

As Ms. Alabama Nursing Home, Edna Farrell will serve as a spokesperson for people living in nursing homes. During her reign, she will attend community events across the state and visit several nursing homes.
