Crowne-Mobile-Mardi-GrasWhat happens when you mix costumes, food, music, trinkets and a lively parade?

You have all of the ingredients of a memorable Mardi Gras celebration!

That’s exactly what Crowne Health Care of Mobile did on Fat Tuesday to put an exclamation point on the Mardi Gras season.

First, residents, staff members and volunteers dressed up in their finest Mardi Gras costumes.

Second, all of the parade participants were given moon pies, beads and stuffed animals to toss to the crowd of onlookers.

Next, everyone lined up to parade through the community’s halls and spread Mardi Gras cheer. Groups of residents were the parade “floats.” Each float had its own music player to broadcast exciting jazz music as the float made its way down all of the halls.

Finally, the parade ended with a big party in the nursing home’s dining room. The room was decorated in purple, green and gold, and tables were decorated with Mardi Gras masks and beads. Some people danced to jazz music playing in the background while others enjoyed feasting on King Cake, moon pies and corndogs.

“Everyone that took part in the Mardi Gras celebration had a great time,” Crowne Health Care of Mobile Activity Director Rosemary Dixon. “Events like this let our residents be a part of the community and enjoy the same events they did before moving to our community.”
