Alabama Nursing Home Association board member Matthew Lewis has been selected for the prestigious Future Leaders of Long-Term Care in America program by the American Health Care Association (AHCA).
The Future Leaders program is a year-long training and mentorship experience designed to enhance participants’ leadership skills and prepare them for pivotal roles within the long-term and post-acute care sector.
Lewis and 53 of his colleagues were chosen for their exemplary leadership at the state level and their potential to serve in future leadership positions within AHCA. The 2024-2025 Future Leaders class met in Washington, D.C. in September for a leadership training symposium to kick off the program year. The program, which began in 2004, covers the latest theories and practical applications in quality management, customer satisfaction and leadership.
“It’s an honor to be selected to represent Alabama in this leadership program and join my peers as we seek to advance the long-term care profession,” Lewis said. “We had an incredible experience learning from experts at the symposium and practicing what we learned during visits to congressional offices. I’m excited for what’s ahead!”
“We are excited to welcome this new group of Future Leaders and support the growth of these outstanding professionals,” said Mark Parkinson, President and CEO of AHCA, in a statement released when the 2024-2025 class of leaders was announced. “Their dedication and passion for improving long term and post-acute care are inspiring. These programs will provide them with the tools and knowledge to make a significant impact by enhancing care for our nation’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.”
After graduation from The University of Alabama, Lewis began his career as an administrator-in-training and earned his nursing home administrator license in 2009. He was administrator at several facilities across Alabama before assuming his current role as administrator of Arbor Springs Health & Rehab Center in Opelika in 2023. Lewis was elected to represent Region 6 on the ANHA Executive Board in 2017.
Lewis is a graduate of the Leadership Autauga County class of 2015 and a fellow and board member at The Blackburn Institute at The University of Alabama. He and his wife have two children.
