MONTGOMERY – Alabama is joining other states to recognize nursing home residents and staff for their contributions to the community during National Skilled Nursing Care Week. Governor Kay Ivey issued a proclamation designating May 12-18 as National Skilled Nursing Care Week in Alabama.
The proclamation commends nursing home employees for the care they provide to Alabama’s patients and residents. Gov. Ivey’s proclamation reminds the public that “nursing home residents of any age or ability are themselves a living history and a precious resource that should be treasured by all Alabamians.”

“Our members are dedicated to meeting the health care needs of the people they serve and creating a warm, home-like environment. I appreciate Governor Ivey recognizing the contributions made to our state by nursing home residents, staff and volunteers,” said Bryan Jones, chairman of the Alabama Nursing Home Association’s board of directors. “I encourage Alabamians to visit their local nursing home during this special week and all year long.”
National Skilled Nursing Care Week, formerly known as National Nursing Home Week, has been sponsored by the American Health Care Association since 1967. In Alabama, it is sponsored by the Alabama Nursing Home Association. The annual observance begins each Mother’s Day and continues through the following Saturday. The national theme for 2024 is “Radiant Memories: A Tribute to the Golden Age of Radio.” The theme is a call to honor the enduring legacy of skilled nursing care centers. In these centers, residents and staff contribute to the creation of radiant memories, akin to the cherished moments shared through music and stories over the radio waves.

2024 National Skilled Nursing Care Week Proclamation
Proclamation by the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, the citizens of Alabama now residing in nursing homes, also known as skilled nursing care centers, have contributed immeasurably to the heritage, success and growth of our state; and
WHEREAS, our nursing home residents of any age or ability are themselves living history and a precious resource that should be treasured by all Alabamians; and
WHEREAS, the staff and volunteers in nursing homes help residents live life to their fullest potential by providing a holistic approach to long-term care and short-term rehabilitation; and
WHEREAS, the member nursing homes of the Alabama Nursing Home Association are holding events in observance of National Skilled Nursing Care Week guided by this year’s national theme of “Radiant Memories – A Tribute to the Golden Age of Radio;” and
WHEREAS, this will be the 57th anniversary of National Skilled Nursing Care Week;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 12-18, 2024, as National Skilled Nursing Care Week in the State of Alabama.
