Alabama is joining other states to recognize assisted living residents and staff for their contributions to the community during National Assisted Living Week. Governor Kay Ivey issued a proclamation designating September 8-14 as National Assisted Living Week in Alabama.

The proclamation commends assisted living employees for the care they provide to Alabama’s older adults and people with disabilities. Gov. Ivey’s proclamation reminds the public that “the citizens of Alabama residing in assisted living communities are active members of the larger community and their past contributions are a vital part of the state’s rich history.”

National Assisted Living Week 2024 proclamation

“I appreciate Governor Ivey recognizing this important week and the people who live and work in assisted living facilities,” said Bryan Jones, chairman of the Alabama Nursing Home Association’s board of directors. “Our association is proud to represent assisted living and specialty care assisted living facilities. I encourage Alabamians to visit their local assisted living facility to learn more about the care and services offered.”

National Assisted Living Week has been sponsored by the National Center for Assisted Living since 1995. In Alabama, it is sponsored by the Alabama Nursing Home Association. The annual observance begins on Grandparents’ Day and continues through the following Saturday.

The national theme for 2024 is “Inspiring Generations.” The theme offers assisted living staff, communities, residents and families the opportunity to look at how assisted living has evolved and grown, inspired by the residents and those who care for them. It is a chance to listen and learn from each other, share stories and wisdom, and find inspiration from those around you.
