The Alabama Nursing Home Association (ANHA) hosted C3 De-escalation® for Health Care Providers on January 21 at the Renaissance Ross Bridge in Birmingham, bringing together healthcare professionals for a practical, trauma-informed training focused on managing challenging behaviors in care settings.
The C3 De-escalation® program is designed as an immediate, short-term intervention that addresses the gap between long-term therapeutic approaches and the use of restraints. The training incorporates research from Yale University, along with real-world fieldwork from care facilities across the country, to provide participants with evidence-based strategies they can apply in their daily work.
Unlike traditional crisis management techniques, C3 De-escalation® is non-contact and respectful, making it a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes safety and dignity for both residents and staff. The program equips healthcare teams with tools to respond effectively to high-stress situations without physical intervention.
Participants received a comprehensive workbook as part of the training, allowing them to develop a personalized and actionable plan tailored to their specific workplace needs. The program is especially relevant for professionals working with residents who may have mental health conditions, substance use disorders, dementia, intellectual or developmental disabilities, or histories of homelessness or incarceration.
This training was designed for assisted living administrators, nursing home administrators, and frontline staff seeking practical strategies to improve care outcomes and workplace safety.
ANHA thanks C3 De-escalation Master Trainer Patti Treibel-Leeds LBSW, MS for leading today’s session and sharing her expertise, as well as ServisFirst Bank for their support in making this educational opportunity possible.
Programs like C3 De-escalation® reflect ANHA’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality education and professional development opportunities that support caregivers and strengthen long-term care services across Alabama.
