Representatives from the Alabama Nursing Home Association and member facilities traveled to Washington, D.C., this week to participate in the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) Congressional Briefing, joining long term care leaders from across the country to advocate for policies that support residents, caregivers, and providers.

The annual event brings together professionals from the skilled nursing and assisted living sectors to discuss federal legislative and regulatory issues impacting long term care. Attendees receive updates on policy developments, hear from national experts, and connect with peers from across the country before taking those conversations directly to Capitol Hill.

A key component of the Congressional Briefing is the opportunity for participants to meet face-to-face with members of Congress and their staff. Yesterday, Alabama long term care leaders met with members of Alabama’s congressional delegation and their staff to share firsthand perspectives on the issues affecting nursing homes, assisted living communities, caregivers, and residents across the state.

These conversations help ensure policymakers understand both the challenges and opportunities facing long term care providers. Discussions focused on issues that impact access to care, workforce development, reimbursement, quality initiatives, and the ability of providers to continue serving Alabama’s aging population.

By participating in the Congressional Briefing, ANHA staff and representatives from member facilities help ensure Alabama’s long term care community has a voice in federal policy discussions. Their advocacy efforts provide lawmakers with valuable insight into how proposed legislation and regulations affect providers, residents, and families at the local level.

Advocacy is one of the many ways ANHA works to strengthen long term care in Alabama and ensure the voices of providers, caregivers, and residents are heard by those making decisions in Washington.

We appreciate the Alabama long term care leaders who took time away from their facilities and organizations to represent our state and advocate on behalf of the residents and caregivers they serve every day. Their commitment helps advance policies that support quality care and strengthen the future of long term care in Alabama.
