The Alabama Nursing Home Association is proud to join communities across the state in celebrating National Assisted Living Week (NALW), September 13–19, 2026.
National Assisted Living Week recognizes the residents, families and dedicated professionals who make assisted living communities an important part of long term care. Across Alabama, these communities provide support while promoting independence, dignity, connection and quality of life.
Governor Kay Ivey has issued a proclamation recognizing National Assisted Living Week in Alabama, highlighting the important role assisted living communities and their caregivers play in serving older adults and individuals with disabilities across the state.
This year’s theme, “Ageless Adventure,” celebrates the idea that adventure, discovery and meaningful experiences have no age limit. Throughout the week, communities will bring residents, families and staff together through activities and celebrations that encourage connection and create lasting memories.
“Assisted living professionals have a unique opportunity to make every day meaningful for the people they serve,” said Brandon Farmer, President & CEO of the Alabama Nursing Home Association. “They build relationships, encourage independence and create communities where residents can continue to enjoy new experiences and live life to the fullest.”
National Assisted Living Week was established in 1995 by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) and is observed each September beginning on Grandparents Day.
The Alabama Nursing Home Association is the exclusive Alabama state affiliate of the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), the nation’s largest organization representing long term and post-acute care providers. Through this affiliation, ANHA connects Alabama providers to national advocacy, education, resources and expertise while representing the interests of long term care providers at the state level.
Since expanding its membership in 2023 to include assisted living and specialty care assisted living communities affiliated with skilled nursing facilities, ANHA has continued to strengthen its support and advocacy for this growing segment of its membership. Today, ANHA represents assisted living providers as part of a unified long term care voice—connecting state advocacy with the resources and national representation of NCAL.
As National Assisted Living Week begins, ANHA is proud to celebrate its assisted living members and the professionals across Alabama who make a difference in residents’ lives every day.
