ANHA thumbnailMore than three dozen students at community colleges across Alabama will be able to pursue a career in nursing thanks to scholarships from the Alabama Nursing Home Association (ANHA) Education Foundation.

The Alabama Nursing Home Association today announced that 38 Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) students at 19 Alabama community colleges will receive scholarships for the 2014 spring semester.

“Well educated and trained nurses are the key to providing high quality health care in our nursing homes,” ANHA Education Foundation Chairman Frank Brown said. “The LPN scholarship program is our proactive approach to developing a strong health care workforce for Alabama’s future.”

The scholarships are $500.00 per student per semester and are offered for the spring, summer and fall semesters at community colleges that are part of the Alabama Community College System. Each college may select two students to receive the scholarship each semester.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have complete the first semester of the LPN program, maintain a 2.5 GPA, be a resident of Alabama and take part in clinical training in a nursing home.

The ANHA Education Foundation established the LPN scholarship program in July 2008. Since its inception, over 550 scholarships have been awarded to deserving students.
