Alabama Lieutenant Governor Kay Ivey recently met with members of the Alabama Nursing Home Association’s Board of Directors.

“You provide high quality healthcare to people who need it,” Lt. Gov. Ivey said in her opening remarks to nursing home leaders from across Alabama.

Lt. Gov. Ivey’s discussion with the nursing home leaders covered a variety of topics including health care, economic development and an overview recent actions taken by Alabama’s legislature.

Lt. Gov. Ivey also complimented the Alabama Nursing Home Association for its willingness to work with others on important legislative matters. “Your association is known in Montgomery as a group that works to be part of the solution,” she said.

Lt. Gov. Ivey is presiding officer of the Alabama Senate by virtue of her elected office. Since Republicans gained a majority of the seats in the Alabama House and Senate in 2010, she says the legislature has worked to make government more effective, reduce the cost of government and create jobs.

“The state is better off today than in 2011, but there’s more to do,” Ivey said as she summarized key legislative accomplishments over the past few years. “We need sustainable growth and investment in the state. We are working for long term solutions, not quick fixes.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, Ivey and the Alabama Nursing Home Association board members agreed to continue working together to improve the quality of care and quality of life of nursing home residents.
