Rehab Select Talladega Health & Rehab shared the following story as part of ANHA’s 75 Stories of Care initiative.

When Monica Swain arrived at Talladega Healthcare following a hospitalization for multiple medical issues, she faced an uncertain future. Once largely independent, she found herself unable to roll over in bed without assistance, transfer to a wheelchair, or walk on her own. The loss of independence left her frightened about what lay ahead.

“I was scared not knowing what was going to happen to me and not knowing what my future held in regard to my independence,” Monica recalled.

From the moment she arrived, the Talladega Healthcare team rallied around her. Monica was in so much pain when she arrived that it hurt to even touch her. You could see the fear and pain in her eyes. Staff developed a personalized care plan focused not only on restoring her physical strength but also rebuilding her confidence.

“Everyone from the day I arrived has been a cheerleader for my health and my mobility,” Monica said. “I knew I just had to trust the process and the staff as they made a plan for my healing.”

With encouragement from her caregivers and the support of physical therapy, Monica steadily regained strength and confidence. Each milestone became a reminder that progress was possible.

“Every day that I had physical therapy and encouragement from all the staff, it gave me hope and confidence that I could regain my life back,” she shared.

Today, Monica is preparing to return home with greater independence and the knowledge she needs to continue overcoming daily challenges.

“Everyone has been amazing and that has made it easy for me to recover. Without Talladega Healthcare I would not be able to do what I am doing now. They’ve given me knowledge and confidence to help me overcome the challenges that I still face daily. It’s been a long journey, but I’m so far ahead of the game from where I was before.”

We’re grateful to the facilities who have already shared their stories — keep them coming!
