Florala Health and Rehabilitation shared the following story as part of ANHA’s 75 Stories of Care initiative.

For the past 10 years, Eric Wobschall, Social Services Director at Florala Health and Rehabilitation, has dedicated his career to helping residents and families navigate some of life’s most challenging transitions.

Fresh out of school, he chose long term care because he wanted to be part of something bigger than himself.

“I felt motivated to be involved in something that gave me a feeling of greater significance,” he said. “I wanted my time and effort to contribute something to another person’s life.”

Today, that commitment is reflected in the relationships he builds with residents and families every day. Eric believes every person has a unique story and strives to ensure residents continue to feel seen, appreciated, and valued after moving into a long term care community.

“I like to draw out their own personality so they feel they can still be who they fundamentally are,” he said. “I don’t want anyone to feel invisible because they are no longer able to work or live with family.”

As a Social Services Director, he often works with individuals and families experiencing anxiety, grief, uncertainty, and significant life changes. Whether helping a family understand the next steps in care or supporting a resident through a difficult transition, he focuses on listening, educating, and helping people find a path forward.

“When I see someone smile and their tension lighten, and they tell me how much more educated and empowered they feel, I know I have shed some light onto their path,” Eric said.

Coworkers describe him as someone who brings positivity and humor to the workplace. He believes those qualities help people process difficult situations, reduce stress, and build trust.

By taking the time to listen, educate, and connect, Eric helps residents and families feel supported during some of the most important moments of their lives—a reminder that care is about more than services; it’s about helping people feel heard, understood, and valued.

We’re grateful to the facilities who have already shared their stories — keep them coming!
