Our Careers in Aging Month series continues with a spotlight on an administrator whose nearly five decades of service have made a lasting impact at Crowne Health Care of Thomasville.

With almost 48 years in the long-term care industry, she has served as an administrator since 2007. What began as an interest in working in a successful business soon grew into something far more meaningful. She also came to appreciate the vital role nursing homes play in supporting families who are struggling to care for aging loved ones. Providing that support, she says, is one of the most important services long-term care offers.

In her role, she strives to live by a simple philosophy embraced by her company: “Find ways to say yes.” Whether it’s taking time to listen, helping fulfill a small request, or simply being present, she believes those moments can make a meaningful difference in residents’ lives. Some of her favorite moments happen when residents call her by name in the hallway to share something they are excited about or something important to them.

For her, a good day at work is often filled with small but joyful experiences — planting flowers with residents who love gardening, playing dominos, or bringing residents hot wings during the Super Bowl just because they asked for them. She also treasures the relationships she has built with her coworkers, many of whom she says feel like family.

After nearly five decades in long-term care, she encourages anyone considering the field to pursue it with heart. “Do it because it’s a ministry,” she says. “Where else can you work where you truly love the residents and get to be someone special in their lives every day?”

Her personal experience helping her own parents transition into nursing home care also gives her a unique perspective when supporting families facing that difficult decision — a responsibility she says she is proud to carry.

Thank you, Diane, for the difference you make every day!
