75 Stories of Care: Submission #5

Crossville Health and Rehabilitation shared a video as part of ANHA’s 75 Stories of Care initiative. Watch Katherine share her story in the video below.

At the time the video was recorded, Katherine Holland had nearly 50 years of service at Crossville. Today, she celebrates 52 years of caring for residents and making a difference every single day.

Katherine began working at the facility three weeks before it even opened its doors to residents. Nearly five decades later, she remains a steady and caring presence — a testament to both her dedication and the enduring mission of long-term care.

Located just seven-tenths of a mile from her home, Katherine says she always felt this was exactly where she was meant to be. Though her work has been her profession, she views it as something deeper. “I have always felt like I’m doing a service for my fellow man,” she shared.

Over the years, long-term care has become personal. Katherine entrusted her own family members — her mother, brother, and aunts — to the same facility where she works. She says she would not have placed them anywhere else because she knows firsthand that the staff truly care.

“We have always had good leadership,” she said. “People really care about what they’re doing.”

For Katherine, residents are not simply patients — they are family. Seeing them day in and day out, she understands that the facility is their home. “We need to make it like their home, and we try to,” she explained. “We get very close to them. It’s just like family, and we try to treat them like family.”

Her story embodies the heart of long-term care — dedication that spans generations, leadership rooted in compassion, and a commitment to making residents feel valued and at home.
