Arbor Lake Health and Rehab shared the following story as part of ANHA’s 75 Stories of Care initiative.

Shonta Philpot is one of our career success stories at Arbor Lake Health and Rehab. She began her journey at here in 2015 as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). From the start, she was known as a hard worker and a dependable team member with a genuine heart for residents. Her commitment to quality care and her positive presence did not go unnoticed.

In 2017, Shonta was promoted to Medical Records, continuing to expand her skills and knowledge within the facility. But her long-term goal remained clear: she had always dreamed of becoming a nurse.

With encouragement and support from her coworkers, Shonta continued pursuing opportunities to advance. In 2021, she became one of the very first participants in Alabama’s Medication Assistant Certified (MAC) program. This program was launched through the efforts of the Alabama Nursing Home Association, Alabama Board of Nursing, and the Alabama Community College System to strengthen career pathways within long-term care.

Her journey did not stop there.

In 2025, Shonta was accepted into the nursing program at Central Alabama Community College. Today, she is continuing her education while serving as a Nursing Apprentice at Arbor Lake — bringing her years of experience, compassion, and commitment full circle as she works toward becoming a licensed nurse.

Arbor Lake Health and Rehab is incredibly proud of Shonta’s accomplishments and grateful for the love and dedication she shows residents and their families each day.

We’re grateful to the facilities who have already shared their stories — keep them coming!
