A Jefferson County nursing home earned two designations to mark the high quality of care it provides.

The recognitions come from both the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) and the federal government.

After a very thorough and demanding annual survey, ADPH inspectors found that Northway Health and Rehab in Birmingham met all of the health care criteria set forth by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. Therefore, state health care inspectors declared the skilled nursing care center to be “deficiency free.”

“Being deficiency free proves that our entire staff of in nursing, dietary, housekeeping, laundry, floor techs, activities, administration, maintenance and therapy are committed to quality health care and increasing the quality of life for our residents,” Northway Administrator Kelvin Robertson, Jr. said.

Northway Health & Rehab is also rated as a “Five Star” facility by the federal government’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Information about the ratings and the standards that accompany them can be found at CMS’ Nursing Home Compare website.

“The five star rating is further proof that Northway is committed to meeting the needs of people in our care,” Robertson said. “We strive for excellence by providing long term care, rehabilitation and respite services in a nurturing environment.”
