Matthew Lewis of Arbor Springs Health & Rehab in Opelika has been elected to serve as Region 6 Director on the Alabama Nursing Home Association Executive Board.
“I’m humbled to have the support of the membership and excited to represent the nursing homes and Alabama’s senior citizens,” Lewis said after the election. “I feel that by serving in this capacity, I have a good opportunity to move the state forward and take care of our seniors and make sure they get what they deserve.”
Lewis has worked in long-term and post-acute care for 10 years. He served as administrator at South Haven Health & Rehab in Hoover and Prattville Health & Rehab before joining Arbor Springs in 2016. Matthew attributes his passion for health care to his father, Mike Lewis, a former Commissioner and Chief Fiscal Officer for the Alabama Medicaid Agency.
“My father worked at the Alabama Medicaid Agency for almost 30 years, so I grew up around health care and people in the nursing home industry,” Lewis said. “I can’t see myself doing anything else. I love what I do. I enjoy the challenges every day and the differences you can make in peoples’ lives.”
Lewis graduated from the University of Alabama in 2008. He is a member of the Advisory Board for the Blackburn Institute at the University of Alabama, and a member of the Opelika Kiwanis Club. He and his wife, Christy, are active members of First United Methodist Church of Opelika.
Lewis will complete the term of former Region 6 Director Jennifer Agee who recently resigned. He will stand for re-election later in 2018.
