Crowne Health Care of Thomasville shared the following story as part of ANHA’s 75 Stories of Care initiative. 

At Crowne Health Care of Thomasville, care extends beyond the walls of the building — it grows through the support of a dedicated community.

The Thomasville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary has long been a meaningful presence at the facility, supporting residents and staff in ways both big and small. Most recently, the group purchased flowers for residents to plant, creating a hands-on activity that brought joy, connection, and a renewed sense of home.

Residents embraced the opportunity, spending time planting and tending to the flowers together. What began as a simple activity has become something they continue to enjoy each day as they watch their work grow and bloom.

The Auxiliary’s support is not new. According to Administrator Diane O. Gatlin, the group has been involved with the facility since its early days, dating back to when the nursing home first opened in 1972. Over the years, their presence has remained steady and impactful.

“They visit often and are a major asset to our facility,” Gatlin shared.

Beyond activities like the flower planting, Auxiliary members regularly volunteer their time for events and spend time visiting with residents. Their commitment also extends to the future of healthcare, offering scholarships to individuals pursuing careers in the field — including members of the facility’s own staff.

What makes this group especially meaningful is their personal connection. Many Auxiliary members have had loved ones, friends, or colleagues who have called the facility home, creating a deep and lasting investment in its success.

“We are so fortunate to have this group as one of our major supporters,” Gatlin said. “The years of dedication they have put into our home deserve to be recognized and hopefully will encourage other organizations throughout the state to take the same interest in supporting our senior citizens.”

Through simple acts like planting flowers and ongoing acts of service, the Auxiliary continues to make a lasting difference — helping create a place where residents feel connected, cared for, and truly at home.
