EAMC – Lanier Nursing Home shared the following story as part of ANHA’s 75 Stories of Care initiative.

With a combined more than 75 years of service at their facility, Sandra and Dianne exemplify the dedication, compassion, and expertise that define long term care in Alabama.

Sandra Hugley, a Business Office Representative, has devoted more than 36 years to the field, including 16 years in her current role. Known for her deep knowledge of the Medicaid application process, Sandra is a trusted resource not only within her facility but also in the broader community.

Recently, Sandra spent hours assisting an individual who was not even being admitted—simply taking the time to answer questions and help them prepare for the future. It’s a reflection of who she is: someone who goes above and beyond, not because she has to, but because she cares.

Sandra’s journey into long term care began unexpectedly but quickly became a calling. “The day that I stepped into the nursing home for clinicals was the day that I fell in love with caring for these precious angels,” she shared.

For Sandra, it’s the relationships—with residents and coworkers alike—that continue to inspire her every day.

Dianne Roberts, LPN, serves as the facility’s Staff Development Coordinator and has spent more than 40 years in long term care, including 20 years in her current role. Often described as the heart of the facility, Dianne is deeply committed to supporting both residents and staff.

When additional staff education was recently needed, Dianne stepped in without hesitation—coming in at all hours to ensure every team member received consistent, thorough training. Her dedication ensures not only quality care, but a stronger, more confident team.

For Dianne, the work has always been about people. “Caring for residents and being part of their lives showed me how meaningful this work is,” she said. “Being able to support both residents and staff is what has made this career so rewarding.”

She also takes great pride in mentoring others, helping to shape the next generation of caregivers while fostering a culture of compassion and teamwork.

We’re grateful to the facilities who have already shared their stories — keep them coming!
