Twenty-two Alabama students will continue to pursue a nursing degree thanks to scholarships from the Alabama Nursing Home Association’s Education Foundation.

The students are enrolled Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) programs at 11 Alabama community colleges and will receive scholarships for the 2015 fall semester.

The scholarships are $500.00 per student per semester and are offered for the spring, summer and fall semesters at community colleges that are part of the Alabama Community College System. Each college may select two students to receive the scholarship each semester.

2015 Fall Semester LPN Scholarship Recipients:

  • Alabama Southern Community College: Christina Landrum and Gwendolyn Tolbert
  • Central Alabama Community College: Megan Cox and Sallie Pulliam
  • Gadsden State Community College: Samantha Frost and Courtney Jenkins
  • Lawson State Community College: Mariah Dobbs and Jennifer Saxton
  • Lurleen B. Wallace Community College: Sada Carroll and Alexandria O’Sheilds
  • Reid State Technical College: Jasmine Palmer and Phillip Purvis
  • Shelton State Community College: Taneika Little and Myisha May
  • Southern Union State Community College: Diana Lopez and Jennifer Voelkel
  • Trenholm State Technical College: Dedra McElroy and Shiamber Waits
  • Wallace Community College: Mary Benton and Tabitha Nix
  • Wallace Community College Selma: Amber Craig and Matthew Russell

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must complete the first semester of the LPN program, maintain a 2.5 GPA, be a resident of Alabama and take part in clinical training in a nursing home.

The ANHA Education Foundation’s LPN scholarship program was established in July 2008. Since its inception, more than 650 scholarships worth more than $325,000 have been awarded to deserving students.
