As we wrap up our Careers in Aging Month series, we are proud to highlight one final dedicated professional making a difference in long term care – Zolanda Williams, a Certified Nursing Assistant at Gadsden Health & Rehab.
With 16 years of experience, Zolanda has built a career rooted in compassion, patience, and a deep commitment to improving the lives of others. She was drawn to the field by a desire to make a meaningful impact, and that purpose continues to guide her work each day.
For Zolanda, some of the most rewarding moments come from the appreciation she receives from residents and their families. “When your patients and family members express genuine gratitude for your hard work and dedication, it reminds you why this career matters,” she shared.
Over the years, her role has shaped her both personally and professionally. She credits her experience in long term care with helping her become more patient and understanding, while also strengthening her ability to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and perspective.
Building relationships is at the heart of what she does. Zolanda finds joy in bringing smiles to residents’ faces and takes pride in being someone they trust. “I love that they recognize me as a trustworthy individual,” she said.
Her impact is also deeply felt by those she works alongside. In her nomination, a supervisor praised Zolanda’s unwavering dedication to residents, noting that she consistently goes above and beyond to enhance their quality of life. From ensuring residents are up, well-groomed, and dressed with dignity each day to encouraging participation in activities and social engagement, Zolanda helps set the tone for a positive and meaningful experience.
Her creativity is especially evident in the memory care unit, where she assists with seasonal decorating and engages residents in therapeutic activities that foster connection and joy. Her compassion, initiative, and commitment truly reflect the spirit of caregiving in aging services.
