Throughout National Careers in Aging Month, ANHA is spotlighting dedicated professionals whose compassion and commitment strengthen long-term care communities across Alabama.
Samantha Culver is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant/Licensed with a focus on Activities of Daily Living. She has served in her current role at El Reposo for three years and has worked in skilled nursing and rehabilitation settings since 2021. Her passion for working with the geriatric population began long before her professional career. “I have always had a connection with the geriatric population since I was a child,” she shared. “I wanted to have a job where I would be able to help them live their life to the best of their abilities.”
In her restorative role, Samantha focuses on promoting independence and improving quality of life for residents. She recalls one particularly meaningful experience with a resident who was nearly bed-bound upon admission but refused to give up. Through determination, collaboration, and consistent support, that resident is now one of the most social individuals in the facility and is able to move about independently. Moments like these serve as powerful reminders of why her work matters.
She values the trust residents place in her and finds motivation even on difficult days in something simple: a smile or a laugh. “It reminds me that I am doing this job with the purpose I set out to do — to help them live out their life happily.”
Samantha credits her grandmother as her greatest influence. Though not a healthcare professional, her grandmother modeled compassion and selfless caregiving — qualities Samantha strives to reflect in her own life and career.
Through her dedication to restorative care and resident independence, Samantha reflects the heart of long-term care.
