As ANHA’s Careers in Aging Month series continues, we recognize Kizzie Murphy, a Certified Nursing Assistant at South Haven Health and Rehabilitation in Hoover. Kizzie has spent more than 17 years caring for residents.
For Kizzie, working in long-term care is about building meaningful relationships and showing compassion to the people she serves every day. Over the years, those relationships have become one of the most rewarding parts of her career.
“Making them smile and brining joy to each resident is what matters,” she shared.
One thing that has stood out to Kizzie during her years in long-term care is how quickly residents and staff begin to feel like family. The bonds formed through daily care and shared experiences create a sense of connection that makes the work especially meaningful.
For Kizzie, a good day starts simply — with a cup of coffee and the determination to meet the goals she has set for the day. Most importantly, it’s about leaving work knowing that what she does truly matters.
Her colleagues say Kizzie embodies the heart of caregiving. One nominator described her as someone who makes residents feel safe and at home, adding that she is “so much more than a dedicated CNA — she is a true caregiver.”
Kizzie says she is proud to work in long-term care because of the bonds she forms and the opportunity to care for others each day.
