After a rigorous annual inspection, a south Alabama nursing home has received the highest possible rating by the state government.
A team of government inspectors from the Alabama Department of Public Health found that West Gate Village in Brewton met all of the health care criteria set forth by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. That led the team to declare the facility to be “deficiency free.” “Deficiency free” is the term used to signify that a nursing home met all of the government’s expectations.
“Achieving this status took a complete team effort from everyone on our staff,” West Gate Village Administrator Mark Manning said. “We work hard to provide the high quality health care our residents deserve. I appreciate the compassion and attention to detail our staff shows each and every day.”
Federal law requires an annual inspection of every nursing home. In Alabama, the federal government contracts with the Alabama Department of Public Health to send a team to each facility to conduct a multi-day review of every aspect of the nursing home’s operation.
According to the latest data available from the American Health Care Association, 5.3% of Alabama nursing homes have been declared deficiency free.
