Located in big cities and small towns all across the country, each nursing home is an active community.

The centers are filled with residents, rehab patients, families, volunteers and health care professionals who share the bond of caring.

Imagine an event that brings the long-term care community of residents, rehab patients, families and care center staff together for a week-long celebration. Now, think of the event as a festival or a party.

This sense of community is what lead the American Health Care Association (AHCA) to select “It’s a Small World with a Big Heart” as the theme for National Nursing Home Week 2016.

Every skilled nursing care center is a small, vibrant world. These caring communities are located in thousands of cities and towns across the United States, at the corner of “Main and Elder” streets, the crossroads of American generations. Here, caring people of all skills and professions interact socially and medically with residents, rehab patients and families. For 2016, the nation will salute skilled nursing care centers and the role they embrace in society with the theme “It’s a Small World with a Big Heart.”

National Nursing Home Week begins on Mother’s Day, May 8, and ends May 14, 2016.

The Alabama Nursing Home Association encourages you to open your heart and see the vibrant life lived inside its member skilled nursing care centers.
