Wesley Manor
Wesley Manor in Dothan marked the start of National Nursing Home Week with a visit from Mayor Mike Schmitz on Monday morning. Mayor Schmitz read a proclamation declaring National Nursing Home Week in the Circle City. A few days earlier on Friday, Mayor Schmitz toured the facility with a nurse to learn about the high level of medical care the staff provides to the residents of Wesley Manor. The tour was in recognition of National Nurses Week.

Hanover Health & Rehab
Hanover Health & Rehab in Birmingham has a different theme for each day of National Nursing Home Week. Monday was Fish Fry Day. Residents and staff had an old fashioned meal of fried fish, hushpuppies, cole slaw and all the trimmings. Tuesday was Cowboys and Indians Day. Of course, people dressed the part and the actors even staged and wild west “shoot out” inside the nursing home. Western music played in the background while the cowboys and cowgirls gathered ‘round the dinner table for a cook out style meal complete with “Cactus Juice” punch. The fun continues on Wednesday with a 1970s theme.

Elba Nursing & Rehab Center
Elba Nursing & Rehab Center took a trip to the Wiregrass area’s Older American Month event held at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in Dothan. A total of 16 residents and nine staff members listened to live music, toured a car show, visited vendor booths and enjoyed a picnic lunch. Everyone that attended received a t-shirt to commemorate the special day. The event was sponsored by the Southern Alabama Regional Council on Aging.
