Felma Schrimshire, Ms. Alabama Nursing Home 2011, passed away Sunday night. She was 104 years old.

Ms. Schrimshire touched the lives of countless individuals during her life. In this article, we look back at some of her accomplishments as Ms. Alabama Nursing Home.

When she was crowned on July 25, 2011, the news was literally heard around the world. Ms. Schrimshire was featured on TMZ.com, the UK Daily Mail and Today.com in addition to Alabama media outlets.

Ms. Schrimshire and the staff of her nursing home, Andalusia Manor, traveled the state attending community events and visiting other nursing homes.

Some of her accomplishments include:

  • Giving the opening prayer for the Alabama House of Representatives;
  • Meeting with Governor Robert Bentley;
  • Visiting 13 nursing homes;
  • Spoke to civic clubs and school groups; and
  • Spoke at the Alabama Nursing Home Association’s Annual Convention and Alabama’s Best Practices.

Earlier in her life, Ms. Schrimshire traveled to every state, each Canadian province and several European counties. A native of Covington County, Alabama, she taught Sunday School 78 years. She lived at Andalusia Manor for six years.

The Alabama Nursing Home Association is thankful for Ms. Schrimshire’s devoted service. Her family is in our thoughts and prayers.
