Rehab & Health Care Center Expands in Alabama’s Black Belt

Health care and civic leaders gathered in Tuskegee last week for a historic day in one of Alabama’s most storied cities.

The event marked the ribbon cutting for Magnolia Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center’s expansion and renovation that will bring new jobs and provide more health care services to the community.

Magnolia Haven’s three-million-dollar expansion and renovation added 24 skilled nursing beds to the 87-bed center. With the expansion, Magnolia Haven can now serve up to 111 people needing long-term care or rehabilitation services. The center will hire an additional 25-30 employees as new patients and residents are admitted to rooms located in the addition.

“We have people who are waiting to live at Magnolia Haven,” Administrator Travis Harper said. “So with the addition of 24 beds we can better serve the needs of Macon County. People have thanked us for giving their loved ones a place where they can live and don’t have to move out of the county.”

During the expansion, the existing building was renovated so there is a seamless transition between it and the new construction. The existing building received new flooring, paint, doors, décor and furniture to match the materials used in the new addition. The staff was able to accommodate the logistics of the nine-month construction project without interrupting the skilled nursing care provided to those living at the center.

“The staff handled it with professionalism and didn’t complain about all of the moving around it took to paint the walls and install the flooring,” Harper explained “Every department did its part. I can’t ask for a better staff. They go home with Magnolia Haven’s residents on their mind, and they come back to work the next day with the residents on their mind.”

Magnolia Haven is operated by Ball HealthCare Services, and is the only skilled nursing care center located in Macon County. Company leaders hope this expansion sends a clear message to the community.

“We’re growing, and Macon County is still flourishing,” Harper said. “We have a hotel and health care center under construction. Macon County is still flourishing and we want to be a part of the economy of Macon County.”

Major Holland was the architect, and Hammer Incorporated served as the general contractor.
