The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) recently honored the Alabama Nursing Home Association (ANHA) with the prestigious Silver Anvil Award of Excellence during a ceremony in New York City. ANHA was recognized for its work on a campaign to help inform the Alabama Legislature about the importance of fully funding the Alabama Medicaid Agency during the Second Special Session of 2015.
Working closely with its agency, Matrix, LLC, ANHA organized and executed “Stand Tall Alabama” in August and September 2016. Over the course of only six weeks:
- 183,000 postcards were distributed to partner organizations and community groups and mailed to members of the Alabama Legislature;
- The StandTallAlabama.com website receives more than 18,500 unique visitors; and
- More than 1,450,000 people were exposed to “Stand Tall Alabama” Facebook messages.
By the end of the campaign, the Alabama Legislature passed a budget fully funding the Alabama Medicaid Agency at the level requested by Gov. Robert Bentley and Medicaid Commissioner Stephanie Azar.
“This award reminds our members that their association effectively represents the needs of nursing home residents and employees,” ANHA Chairman Frank Brown said. “This campaign was especially important because every part of Alabama’s health care system depends on Medicaid funding. I appreciate the hard work of our members, staff, Matrix and our “Stand Tall Alabama” coalition partners. This award would not be possible without everyone working together.”
Awarded annually since 1944, PRSA’s Silver Anvil Award and Silver Anvil Award of Excellence are considered the public relations equivalent of an Oscar or Grammy. The awards recognize programs that incorporate sound research, planning, execution and evaluation and meet the highest standards of public relations performance. The awards are judged by an elite group of national public relations professionals. The Alabama Nursing Home Association and Matrix, LLC received the Award of Excellence in the Integrated Communications – Associations and Nonprofits category.
The 125 finalists for 2016 included 18 Fortune 500 companies and international public relations firms.
